Description
Farhang Jalali
Farhang Jalali (b. 1966, Shiraz, Iran) is an Iranian‑Canadian artist known for his socially engaged installations and sculptures. He fled Iran in 1988 during the Iran–Iraq War, lived in Pakistan and worked as a graphic designer before immigrating to Canada in 1993. Jalali studied fine art at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, graduating in 2000, and has since exhibited across Canada. His work addresses themes of war, trauma, displacement and social justice. In his 2010 installation ‘Amputation,’ thousands of plaster casts of hands and fingers were assembled with community volunteers as a memorial to victims of violence. Jalali continues to create art that bears witness to conflict and advocates for peace.
