Jeff Willmore grew up in Sarnia, Ontario and moved to London in 1970 to study graphic design at Fanshawe College. After switching to fine art, he graduated in 1980 and became part of the ‘London Regional’ art scene championed by artists like Greg Curnoe. Over more than four decades Willmore has developed a distinctive painting practice that merges narrative and landscape. Working in oil and acrylic, he depicts the flat fields and waterways of southwestern Ontario and the industrial skylines of cities like Detroit, often infusing them with abstracted figures and vessels. Exhibitions such as ‘After the Rain’ (2017) and ‘Orange Erie Trawler’ (1999) highlight his ability to capture atmosphere through bold colour and energetic brushwork. His paintings are held in numerous private and public collections.
