Description
Jenna Rose Sands
Jenna Rose Sands is a Cree Anishinaabe artist and writer based in London, Ontario. Frustrated by the lack of public understanding of Indigenous issues, she began making a series of zines that educate readers about topics such as Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, residential schools and environmental justice. Her mixed‑media works combine drawing, collage and text in dynamic compositions that challenge stereotypes and foster empathy. In 2021 she created the painting ‘All Mothers,’ a colourful uterus surrounded by stars and hands, as a reminder that the health of the earth is the health of our Mother. Sands believes that by changing the language around Indigenous issues one zine at a time, artists can reshape public consciousness. The health of the earth is the health of our Mother.
