Jamelie Hassan
Jamelie Hassan is an award-winning visual artist and activist born in London, Ontario. She studied art in Rome and Beirut and has been exhibiting her installation‑based work since the 1970s. Hassan’s art interweaves language, politics and personal history, addressing subjects such as migration, cultural memory and solidarity movements. A co‑founder of the Embassy Cultural House, she is also a writer, curator and lecturer. Jamelie has stated that artists have a responsability to engage with the important issues of their time, a principle that continues to guide her practice. She has exhibited internationally and her works are included in major collections in Canada.
